COUP D’ÉTAT: ART BASEL MIAMI, DEC 1-4, 2021
The Brooklyn Collective (Charlotte, NC), Sozo Gallery, John Michael Designs and Kristen van Diggelen Sloan are thrilled to announce Coup D’état - Art Basel Miami. The show will be hosted in Miami’s Design District with gallery hours daily, as well as live music for designated events and in the evenings.
Coup D'état is an ambitious and soulful exhibition of artists collectively addressing the powers that be with an aim to challenge, uplift and propel minds to higher levels amidst the tumult of our times. Coup D’état will feature paintings, textiles, drawings, and sculptures by 18 artists with exceptional artisanship and formal mastery, whose works spotlight social inequities, explore cultural identity, confront institutionalized powers and journey to the sublime.
The exhibition is committed to empowering artists and creatives, from emerging to established, and to encourage healing and community through the arts. Artists will be represented from all over North America and Europe. 10% of show proceeds will be donated to The Brooklyn Collective.
The Brooklyn Collective (Charlotte, NC), is a non-profit organization with a mission to accelerate inclusivity and economic mobility in Charlotte, NC. The Collective promotes visual and performing arts to engage business, civic and creative thought-leaders. The Collective operates out of 3 historic buildings (circa 1886) that is home to many “firsts” including the first building financed, designed, and built by black leaders exclusively for black professionals. The buildings are the few to survive the 1960’s “urban renewal” destruction of the Brooklyn Neighborhood in Uptown Charlotte, NC. As these leaders served the city of Charlotte by social, political, and economic means, so too does The Brooklyn Collective.
The exhibition will run from December 1 - December 4, 2021, from 11am-10pm at 4141 NE 2nd Ave, Miami, FL 31337.
